Spring mood
Can spring really have such an effect?
I've already seriously overslept, I need to hurry so the scolding from the boss isn't too severe...
What am I even doing?
What am I thinking about?
As soon as I stepped out of the dark entrance onto the street, I was immersed in warm sunlight, in birdsong, in the bright glints of numerous puddles and streams. A cool breeze pleasantly caressed my face, contrasting with the warm spring sun warming my skin. Everything around seemed filled with warmth and light.
Instead of hurrying to the bus stop, I slowly wandered along the sidewalk. I completely lost the desire to think about work; a quiet celebration settled in my soul. Passersby didn't seem like the usual gray, hunched shadows. They were real people with cheerfully sparkling eyes, smiles...
My feet led me to the park on their own. On a weekday, it was quiet and deserted. The hustle and bustle of car and human traffic was left behind. Only birdsong broke the silence. I walked along the path with an involuntary smile, turning my face to the long-awaited warm sun; underfoot, finally, there was no crunching, prickly snow—it had given way to a babbling stream.
The stream was exactly like the one where, as a child, I launched boats carved from pine bark. Wide, deep enough, it briskly ran down the hill in the depths of the park, where the old city museum was located.
I so didn't want to go anywhere that I decided to settle on one of the park benches. Sitting down, I stretched my legs out with pleasure and stretched sweetly, squinting with delight. Bright sunlight filtered through my closed eyelids, creating a feeling of warmth and joy. My lips stretched into a smile on their own.
Then I heard a quiet laugh; lazily opening my left eye, I saw a girl sitting on the bench opposite. Wow, I was so relaxed I didn't even notice anyone around. (Specially for etales.ru — .org) Feeling a bit embarrassed, I sat up in a more proper posture, glancing shyly at the stranger.
She was unlikely older than me, looking no more than twenty-five, dark hair tied in a ponytail, regular features and a soft smile. I couldn't help but smile back.
For a while, we just sat opposite each other, smiling and glancing at one another.
I caught myself thinking that I would gladly admire spring together with this girl. This thought became more and more persistent, and finally, I decided to make the first move. Getting to my feet, I took a step forward and... almost bumped into the girl, who had also decided to approach me at that very moment.
— Sorry for disturbing you, — the stranger smiled guiltily. — I just couldn't help it, you were basking in the sun with such a contented face! Just like a real cat...
— It's nothing serious! — I awkwardly fell silent, not knowing how to continue the conversation.
— Shall we sit? — the stranger beckoned me to her bench. I gladly agreed.
— It's so wonderful outside today! I feel... I don't even know... more alive somehow! — the girl turned her face to the sun's rays, and I admired her beauty, her naturalness and simplicity.
— And I don't feel like working... , — I drawled, relaxing in the sun again.
The stranger suddenly jumped up and leaned over me, peering into my face. Her brown eyes looked attentive and inquisitive. Her face was so close that I could smell her skin; she smelled of flowers, she smelled of spring.
— Just like a cat! — she smiled broadly. — So content and cute! Kitties are my weakness!
I simply melted with happiness when her narrow palm began stroking my hair. Giving in to the impulse, I carefully took her by the waist and sat her on my lap.
How wonderful that spring has come...
She didn't resist, wrapped her slender arms around my neck and froze, burying her face in my shoulder.
— It's so nice... , — the girl whispered. — Stroking my hair again.
Her attention was caught by some little bird, and she watched with curiosity as it busily washed its feathers in the stream. And I watched her, the flutter of her eyelashes, the movement of her lips...
I became scared. I couldn't say why myself, but a dreary feeling of fear gripped my heart. Or maybe because...
— It's scary, — she said, as if eavesdropping on my thoughts. — Scared that this feeling is fleeting, scared that the sun will hide behind a cloud now and it will all end.
I hugged her tighter and kissed her on the lips. It was supposed to be a short kiss, to encourage the girl, to turn it all into a joke, but it turned out long and passionate.
I felt that for the first time, something big was being born in me, something strong, something I had never had before. The feeling about which songs are composed, books are written, films are made... a feeling that cannot be understood without experiencing it.
Time, it seemed, no longer had power over us. We gave each other kiss after kiss. She clasped the back of my head with her hands, and I caressed with my tongue and showered kisses on her neck. The smell of her skin, the taste of her lips drove me crazy. Her strong teeth gently nibbled my earlobe, her hot breath burned...
How long did we sit like that? Maybe an hour? Maybe five. That time slipped through our fingers, leaving behind warm, heartwarming memories.
We left the park holding hands tightly. The sun had indeed hidden behind a cloud, but the world still shone with colors and gave warmth.
Dear readers.
